Magically Creepy
So I have come across this video some time ago. From what I understand it is the thesis work of one of the students at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Whatever the source, this is one of the most amazing moving image pieces I have seen in some time. The reason I post it today is that thanks to the magic of stumble upon, I have been re-introduced to it.
It is creepy, it is powerful, it is very delicately put together. Further to that, it has an EXCELLENT soundtrack - something that i think is woefully neglected in most modern video productions.
Enough gum-flapping, on with the show! (hope you love it)
After rewatching this, i am reminded of something that the unbearably prominent graffiti artist Banksy is getting known for saying…
The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little.
I agree with the self righteous bastard to an extent. It is true that too much talent is being sucked in by the commercial world (never to be heard from again). But I would insist that this does not mean that their work dissapears, it just means that we need to re-adjust where we look to find out “art”.
This merits further consideration I think.

Becky Siamon - Promo Work
So yesterday was a great day.
Local musical prodigy Becky Siamon asked me to shoot some promo photos for her. We hashed out some ideas, and concluded that we needed to shoot her outdoors (believe it or not, i railed for this one) and with some extra lighting, and my favorite part, is with the added seamless paper as a partial backdrop.
1 generator rental, and a whole lot of futzing around with the seamless (which HATES the wind BTW) we started shooting. It kinda turned out more awesome than i had expected.
Hope you love em!

The Russian Play
2b theatre company is a great company based here in Halifax. They have been around since 2002, and have put together, presented, and premiered some of the best theatre this town has seen.
It is because of that that i have been very proud to work with them for the last few years, both as designer/web geek, and as photographer. So when the asked me to shoot some promotional material for their newest work “The Russian Play”, i was more than happy to help. Check out a few choice shots from this last tuesdays shoots.

Tracy and John’s Wedding
So it appears that wedding season has officially begun here at Blee-ree-eyed.
And to kick things off, we start with Tracy and John. This incredibly fun-loving couple came all the way from Edmonton Alberta to be with John’s family on their special day. Their wedding planner had contact and hired me to shoot their day, and I am so glad they did. The whole day was a blast, i had a great time.
Tracy, John, this ones for you!

Alanna vs. the Turcotte Interchange
Okay, i dont know how many of you know Montreal, but it is a beautiful city, with loads of history, briming with culture, overflowing with things to do and people to meet. So naturally i radiate towards and fixate on the most desolate and arguably ugliest part of the main part of Montreal. It is the Turcotte Interchange. Where 3 major highways meet in a spaghetti monster mishmash of geometric and visual eye candy. To those of you familiar with my Dead of Night work, will not be surprised at me radiating towards this pre-apocalyptic mess.
Okay, now that i have found the set, who to shoot in it?
Well it turns out that one of the most beautiful women in Montreal was keen to reply to my call for volunteers. Needless to say, i was excited. Her name is Alanna, and the classic glam style she brought to this shoot was a PERFECT counterpoint to the amazing setting.
Enough with the gum flapping! Lets see some pictures already!

Best Graduation Photos EVER!
Meet Tanya Wood.
Tanya has been a dear friend of mine for nearly a decade now, and was the primary reason behind my visit to montreal. Tanya is a very proud recent graduate from welding school. Tanya was not looking her finest when the school was having grad photos done. Tanya’s mom asked me make up for it.
I don’t know if this is what Tanya’s mom had in mind, but DAMN are these cool!

Heather Markoff - Portfolio Building
Heather was another Montrealer that responded to my call for volunteers.
She is a young woman very much interested in persuing a career in modeling, so she got a hold of me to help build her portfolio. We took some time and carefull selected her outfits, had a friend of hers work her magic on the hair, and had heather do her own makeup. With this many changes in hair, makeup, and wardrobe, we ended up shooting for a long day, all the way from 11am to 7pm!
And check out these delicious results!
So we first start off poolside, for some classic bikini shots.

Meagan Smith - folio shoot
So before i set off to Montreal, i put the call out to all my contacts in that town. Broadcasting the fact that I was looking for vonteers to work with me on some photo shoots. I heard back from a surprising amount of people! The first of which was this woman, Meagan. Curious story with her; she doesn’t have any ambitions to be a model, or even really have any use for having photos of herself, but she was just intruiged by the idea and wanted to give it a whirl.
I admire that kind of spirit. So we took the afternoon to shoot a few sets of images. We first started in the entry corridor to her apartment, which had this wild faux fresco painting work done in it. Totally awesome.

DMCC - St. Eustache
So I have arrived in Montreal finally, for my weeks worth of vacation/portfolio building/catching up with old friends.
My hosts in town are both active members of DMCC (Drift Mania Canadian Championship). For those of you who dont know, drifting is likely the most insane motor sport practiced on asphalt. Drivers basically need to keep their cars on the edge of spinninig out while they go through very tightly controlled corners and such. You can read more at the DMCC homepage here.
Anyhow, thanks to my connections through my hosts, I managed to be allowed to shoot inside the actual race track, and i gotta say, it was intense! ENJOY!

Red Ball Internet
Red Ball internet is a telecom company based in Moncton N.B. They asked me to come out and shoot some material for their soon-to-be-released website. They needed quite a range of shots, so I spent the whole day with their people gettings a range of material.
Check out some of the shots!
this for example is one of their service trucks, and i took the oppourtunity to make it look as badass as possible. And I have to say, i feel that is one HELL of a bad ass looking truck.
